ReadyMade Works would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your support in 2016 and to welcome in a brand spanking new year that will be filled with imagination, dancing and possibility. First up we would like to share some staff changes;
Thank-you Linda Luke
Our Associate Director Linda Luke has stepped down in this position to focus more on her artistic and teaching practice in 2017. Linda has been instrumental in the last 18 months in continuing the vitality and life of the studio especially the creation of new dance development program Happy Hour – that supports the showing of new work under the nurturing eye of a curator from the dance sector. It was very well received and although Linda will not be working with us as Associate Director she will still continue to facilitate and curate Happy Hour in 2017. In 2016 Linda Luke also brought a very special program to RMW, Dance Diaries. Created and choreographed by Linda this project was in collaboration with Ultimo ‘legend lady’ Sylvia Liu, Chinese Australians over 65 living in Ultimo, film maker Martin Fox and composer Michael Toisuta. The project created a dance film celebrating two important things in life: home and dancing. DANCE DIARIES ULTIMO will premiere as part of Seniors Week, April 2017.
We wish Linda well in all her creative endeavours and are super glad she will continue to bring her passion to the studio as Associate Artist and RMW Board Member.
Welcome Patricia Wood
We would like to welcome Patricia Wood as ReadyMade’s new Studio Manager.
She will be looking after the space, bookings and the needs of our wonderful hirer’s and artists. She will also be continuing her own dance practice in the Studio throughout 2017. Patricia has been associated with RMW since 2015 – facilitating the very successful Independent Dance Classes on Tuesday mornings. RMW is very excited to have her ideas, dedication and passion in the organisation.
About: Patricia is a dancer and choreographer based in Sydney. She recently completed a Masters in response to André Lepecki’s ‘body as archive’, where she made three choreographic studies that experimented with creating an emergent relationship to histories embedded in her body. Patricia has received support through the Australia Council’s Artstart and SCOPE programmes, and received residencies from Critical Path, Frontyard and Ausdance.
As a performer Patricia has worked with dance companies and independent artists performing in Australia and internationally. These include Stan’s Café (UK), Les Commandos Percu (FR), Tasdance and with artists Mette Edvardsen (NOR/BE), Ros Crisp (FR/AU), Nick Cave (US), Clare Dyson, Natalie Cursio, Ivey Wawn, Martin del Amo, Dean Walsh, Jo Pollitt and Paea Leach.
In 2012 Patricia was the Entertainment Curator for TEDxPerth; in 2014 she worked with Ausdance NSW and Sydney Dance Company to produce the large-scale community event, Big Dance; and since 2015 has been facilitating Sydney’s independent dance classes (IDC) in partnership with Ready Made Works. Patricia’s writing has been published in Un Magazine and Critical Dialogues.
She is currently a teaching artist with Sydney Dance Company.

The 2017 RMW Program
After a very tricky year financially we are happy to announce that we received $40,000 in project funding from ARTS NSW. This funding will be used to roll out more significant opportunities for dance and moving artists in 2017. First off the mark is our MOVING IDEAS residency program. We will be offering 10 weeks over 2017 of free space and a $1000 stipend to support the development of new dance and movement work. We have also been funded to deliver HAPPY HOUR, which Linda Luke will continue to facilitate and curate alongside two other fantastic artists as well as new project FIRST RUN in partnership with Critical Path. Facilitated by Rhiannon Newton and Brooke Stamp First Run was initiated by Lucy Guerin Inc in 2008 in Melbourne, running regularly each year at the company’ studio. First Run Sydney is a partnership between ReadyMade Works, Critical Path in collaboration with Lucy Guerin Inc.
We will also be holding a number of Workshops throughout the year – first up will be in March 25 & 26 with Laura Sheedy who will taking a two day Viewpoints and Composition workshop and later in the year Rosalind Crisp. We will also again be donating significant in-kind and subsidised space to IDC (Independent Dance Classes), Ausdance NSW (DAIR) and the amazing DirtyFeet clan.
In 2017 we have also started a brand new relationship with WAAPA and LINK Dance Company in WA. Each year a chosen graduate from the company will receive a week of free space and a $1000 stipend to continue their practice, make connections in the dance community and seed new dance idea.In 2017 the first LINK graduate RMW Space stipend was awarded to April Vardy.
So stayed tuned to the ReadyMade Website for more details of these upcoming projects especially the Moving Ideas Residency as applications will open end of January!!!!

Love What We Do!!
In November 2016 we launched our ‘Love what we do’ fundraising campaign that raised $5000 dollars toward the running of the studio in 2017 and to assist in supporting the behind the scenes costs for RMW in 2016.
Since opening the studio in 2014 ReadyMade Works has supported the dance community in Sydney with 35 weeks of free space and that is not even counting the subsidised space we offer as part of our discounted rates!. In the last three years through self-funding and support from the City of Sydney we has given approx $30,000 in support to artists. Not bad for a very tiny organisation!
ReadyMade is run by a very P/T position and voluntarily by the RMW Director so every donation has helped keep the P/T role alive and helped RMW keep it’s doors open for 2017.
These are the champions that supported the RMW campaign – Shota matsumura, Rob McCredie, Patricia Wood, Lucy Parakhina, Patrick Cullen, Elle Evangelista,, Anthea Doropoulos, Rhiannon Newton, Julia Cotton, Cloe Fournier, Adelina Larsson, Kay Armstrong, Jessica Dalton, Jo Pollitt, Gideon Payten-Griffiths, Ryuichi Fujimura, Anthony Skuse, Harley Stumm,, Linda Gamblin, Fabiana Serafim, Lukas Radovich, Samantha Ward, Narelle Benjamin, Michael Wood, Andrew Langcake, Emma Harvie, Yana Taylor, Keila Terencio, Serena Chalker, Miranda Wheen, Thomas, Elphick, Charemaine Seet, Lian Loke, Vaughan Macefield, Kim Spinks, Nikki Heywood, Alejandro Rolandi, Deborah Pollard, Alice Cummins,, Rhys Morris, Jessica Dalton, Su Goldfish, Julie-Anne Long and Megan Lewis.
5 YEAR LEASE WHOOP WHOOP!!
RMW is proud to announce that it has received an additional five year lease with the City of Sydney – we are so happy that RMW can be a sustainable home for independent dance and movement practices. We are so hopeful for the future and the support we want to bring this very talented and extremely special art from, as well as continue to offer subsidised hire rates to the performing arts community – to make – to meet and share stories.
The ReadyMade People!
Lastly we want to thank the ReadyMade people and all the artists who make this organisation possible – RMW’s Chair – Julie-Anne Long, Associate Artist – Linda Luke, Treasurer – Giles Gunesekera, Secretary – Cass Chester, Design Manager – Rhys Morris and Martin Fox who has been documenting the events at the Studio.
