A brand new program from ReadyMade to support the independent dance community…
DanceLIFE sessions 2018
DanceLIFE Sessions comes from the necessity to experiment and devise resilient work practices and tactical approaches, for working as artists in Australia in an ever-changing cultural environment. The focus is on work processes and the complex relationships between artists and their everyday lives. Supported by the City of Sydney the program looks at charting the issues that come up for the independent dance artists in work and life and importantly provide a ‘sounding board’ for these experiences. In a series of sessions convened by ReadyMade Works co-director and award winning dance artist Julie-Anne Long the sessions will cover a range of topics concluding with a long lunch at the studio in December to celebrate the resilience, creativity and downright awesome capacity of the independent dancer in Sydney and beyond.
So come along and share your experiences and thoughts for and with the community!

SATURDAY 25 AUGUST 4–6PM
The Kind of Work
In a bid to enhance the altruistic behaviours of our community, come along to share your experiences with mentoring: the good, the bad and the ugly of mentor and artist relationships. We aim to develop some unexpected intergenerational and peer-to-peer mentoring matches that can be fostered over the coming year.
SATURDAY 8 SEPTEMBER 4–6PM
More Than A Job
To generate an inventory that acknowledges the extent of what dance artists ‘do’ and how dance artists work, join the conversation and contribute to a comprehensive dance artist audit. Anecdotes, hard facts and statistics are all welcome.
SATURDAY 20 OCTOBER 4–6PM
The Way We Work
Bring a friend who works in another occupation — an office worker, construction worker, cleaners, lawyer — to exchange similarities and differences in our working ethos, business approaches, career projections, professional conduct and work cultures.
SATURDAY 17 NOVEMBER 4–6PM
Managing interactions with administrators, management, production, training, marketing, producing, audience, critics, funding bodies, other dance artists, cross-disciplinary connections, even physiotherapists, requires a broad skills base and an entrepreneurial flair — essentially a single individual fulfilling the roles that in large companies are carried out by a whole team of professionals. How do you deal with these hectic interactions?
SUNDAY 16 DECEMBER 1PM–5PM
Long Lunch Xmas Picnic
Need we say any more?… bring a picnic blanket, bring a plate, bring a bottle. Join the long lunch at the ReadyMade studio on the balcony overlooking the city, to celebrate the year that was.
