‘yvonne’ is the title given retrospectively to this production. The choreographic material was taken precisely from Crazy in Love by Beyoncé. She is a 1914 Matisse painting, a choreographic liberator and a bourgeois anima.
In considering how to dance solo, the most important act is an observing of what it is you are doing, to become what you are doing, especially if you think you know what it is you are doing. It means allowing time for the naissance of idea(s), and their brief possession of meaningless actions.
Thomas is based in Brussels (BE), and works for Emanuel Gat Dance (FR) as dancer, costume designer and pedagogue. He previously danced with Sydney Dance Company and Australian Dance Theatre. His practice is largely influenced by Japanese Butoh, which lead to the creation of his solo exposition ‘yvonne’ and the duo performance work ‘clay’ with his Japanese collaborator, Dai Matsuoka.
