Learning Curve is Dancehouse’s development program aiming to place emerging choreographers in an immersive and intimate environment with a prominent figure of dance making and thinking.
Paris-based American choreographer Jennifer Lacey is a much acclaimed award-winning artist and pedagogue. Over the past 15 years she has taught technique, improvisation and composition all over the globe, in institutions, studios, festivals and most recently and regularly at ImpulsTanz where she will be leading the danceWEB program this year.
As far afield from traditional dance performance as the work often goes, Jennifer Lacey’s choreographic practice is based on an interrogative development, producing aesthetic rules, body vocabulary, and behaviors specific to each piece or context. The form of the workshops she leads are often performative and capable of producing content rather than just transmitting it. With Learning Curve, she will be focusing on composition by using her or the participants’ existing material as the basis for generating critical analysis based on a working practice.
Learning Curve is open to 15 participants only. Applications to Learning Curve are by EOI due March 8, 2015. Only choreographers with a current professional practice can apply.
