It’s been a big start to 2019 here at ReadyMade Works!
We, Patricia Wood,Adelina Larsson and Rhiannon Newton, are delighted to be the new caretakers of the studio. We are very honoured to be taking on this roll and hope to continue the incredible work of founder, Sam Chester, in creating a home for independent dance in Sydney. We look forward to working with the community of regular hirers, dancers, choreographers, artists and audiences who have grown to love and rely on ReadyMade Works for affordable space and access to dance in Sydney. We encourage you to get in touch with us at email@example.com to chat about anything relating to ReadyMade.
As the new caretakers we will be working voluntarily, sharing the work of managing bookings and making sure the space is clean, ready to use and easily accessible for hirers. Our role as caretakers also involves facilitating ongoing ReadyMade Works programs such as Happy Hour and Moving Ideas residencies,as well as new opportunities for artists to get into the studio and develop their work in a supported environment. Read on for more for information about our new Open Practice sessions, IDC in 2019 and our special March Dance programs.
Our vision as caretakers involves providing a supportive and reliable space for artists, alongside the ongoing development of our creative practices as independent artists. You may notice us working in the space during downtimes around our hirers. You can also read more about our past and current work as dancers, choreographers and facilitators here.

New in 2019
ReadyMade has wifi! Now you can rehearse with whatever online music you desire, do research for your projects and stream yourself online – if you so desire? You’ll find the password on the magnet on the fridge in the kitchen.
We have set-up a shared office for the caretakers in the former storage room next to kitchen. You may notice us on-site during your rehearsals, we’ll do our best to leave you to work in private, but please also feel free to pop in and have a chat to us about what you’re working on.
In March we will be starting Open Practice sessions, a weekly chance to meet in the studio to engage in improvisation and choreographic practices.
IDC kicks off this Tuesday 5 February
Now in its fifth year, Independent Dance Classes are a weekly class led by industry professionals. IDC is run by artists for artists and was formed from a desire to have a regular open space to take class, train, share practice and connect with independent dance networks in a supportive environment. Classes in February will be taught by Renata Commisso (5, 12) and Patricia Wood (19, 26).
Get in Soon for Bookings in 2019
We’ve begun with quite a busy year of hires. Without ongoing program funding our studio hirers are the highly valued means by which ReadyMade is able to continue and provide opportunities for artists. And the studio is booking up quickly. Head to our website to make bookings for 2019, particularly if you are after consecutive days or weekend bookings.
March Dance is an exciting new initiative that puts a spotlight on dance practice in Sydney. Check out the March Dance website to see the full program, grab tickets and register for opportunities on offer.
We are thrilled to announce another edition of Happy Hour, ReadyMade Works’ signature short-works program for sharing the new choreographic work of Sydney’s makers. Save the date for this special March Dance edition of Happy Hour,2-3March, 6pm at ReadyMade Works in Ultimo.

We have put our heads together to imagine what might be useful for the ReadyMade community of dancers and makers. We’ve come up with Constant Relay. Essentially an opportunity to get into the studio (for free) and work on whatever it is you want to work on, the program offers three-hour sessions with an extra half-hour overlap to exchange with the artist preceding and following you in the space. We encourage artists to sign up for at least two sessions. Check out further details here and register your interest by emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org

In The Studio
We have been delighted to have Anton and Brianna Kell in the studio this past month, working together on a new duet for presentation in 2020 with Form Dance Projects. Anton also undertook 2 weeks of solo practice and exploration toward the development of a new work. It has been a delight to have these two superstars dancing through the sweaty weeks of January!
